It is ideal for creating light, airy accents in the garden, flower beds and alpine slides. Due to its graceful beauty and versatility, this variety is often used in landscape design. Allium "White Cloud" looks great in mixed borders, combining with other perennials such as roses, lavender or sage. Dried flowers can be used in floral compositions, adding tenderness and lightness to the interior.
Variety description
- Inflorescence: It has large airy spherical inflorescences with a diameter of 12-15 cm. The inflorescences consist of many small white flowers, which create the impression of a delicate cloud, which is held on tall strong stems.
- Height: Shoots reach 90-150 cm in height, making 'White Cloud' allium ideal for creating vertical accents in the garden. This variety looks good both in the background of flower beds and in the center of mixed borders.
- Leaves: Linear, deep green, located near the base of the plant. The leaves retain their decorativeness until the moment of flowering, after which they gradually wither.
- Flowering time: Allium "White Cloud" blooms in late spring - early summer, usually in May-June. Flowering lasts for several weeks.
- Aroma: The flowers have a delicate, almost imperceptible aroma, which does not dominate, but only complements the general atmosphere of the blooming garden.
- Durability: The variety is frost-resistant, easily tolerates winter cold. Bulbs are resistant to most diseases and can remain in the soil without transplanting for several years.
Cultivation features
- Soil: Allium "White Cloud" prefers well-drained, fertile soil. Optimal conditions are sunny areas, but this variety can also grow in light partial shade.
- Planting: Bulbs are planted in autumn to a depth of 15-20 cm, leaving about 20 cm of distance between plants. It is important to ensure good drainage to avoid water stagnation, which can lead to rotting of the bulbs.
- Care: After flowering, you can leave the inflorescences for a decorative effect - dry balls add textural diversity to the garden. It is recommended to remove the leaves only after they are completely withered to ensure the plant accumulates nutrients for the next season.
Where to plant?
- Beds and flower beds: Allium "White Cloud" is excellent for planting in groups in flower beds, adding lightness and tenderness to the garden with its snow-white inflorescences.
- Mixed borders: Due to its height and airy flowers, this variety looks great in mixed borders, combining with other flowering plants such as delphiniums or roses.
- Alpine slides: The grace of "White Cloud" makes it an excellent choice for alpine slides, where it creates the impression of light, almost weightless accents.
- Cutting: The inflorescences of this allium retain their decorativeness for a long time when cut. Dried, they can be used in floral arrangements, giving them texture and volume.
Allium "White Cloud" is a real gem among decorative onions. Its snow-white blooms, graceful stems, and ease of care make it a great choice for experienced gardeners and beginners alike.
