Crocus "Jeanne d'Arc" is an exquisite variety, characterized by pure white flowers and early flowering. It adds freshness and elegance to spring flower beds and borders, creating a spectacular contrast with green leaves and other bright spring flowers. This variety is a great choice for gardeners looking to fill their garden with sophisticated beauty.
Variety description
- Flowers: Large, snow-white flowers with a diameter of about 4-5 cm. Their petals have a smooth texture and a pure white color that gives the impression of elegance and freshness. The inside of the flower is contrasted with a bright yellow pistil, which gives the flower additional expressiveness.
- Dimensions: Stems reach a height of 10-15 cm, which makes this variety ideal for low-growing flower arrangements, borders and alpine slides. It is also well suited for growing in containers.
- Leaves: Narrow, lanceolate, dark green with a characteristic light stripe along the central vein. The leaves appear at the same time as the flowers and form a thick rosette.
- Flowering: Crocus "Jeanne d'Arc" blooms in early spring, usually in March-April, one of the first after the snow melts. Its flowers create bright white accents in the garden, adding a sense of spring purity and renewal.
- Aroma: The flowers do not have a pronounced aroma, but their aesthetic appeal makes this variety a real gem of the spring garden.
- Resistance: "Jeanne d'Arc" tolerates winter frosts well, showing excellent frost resistance. Crocus bulbs are resistant to most garden diseases and are suitable for perennial cultivation without the need for frequent transplants.
Cultivation features
- Soil: Crocus 'Jeanne d'Arc' prefers well-drained, loose and fertile soil. It grows best in sunny areas or in light partial shade.
- Planting: Bulbs are planted in autumn at a depth of 5-10 cm with a distance of about 5 cm between plants. The planting depth depends on the size of the bulbs. It is important to ensure good drainage to avoid water stagnation.
- Care: After flowering, the leaves should be left to die back naturally so that the bulbs can accumulate nutrients for the next season. Watering should be moderate, avoiding waterlogging of the soil.
- Uses: Crocus 'Jeanne d'Arc' is ideal for spring beds, borders, alpine slides and containers. It also combines beautifully with other early flowering plants such as daffodils, snowdrops or hyacinths, creating spectacular spring compositions.
