Sainfoin
Sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia) is a useful green manure and excellent honey plant, a perennial legume that thrives in thin chalk, limestone or rocky soils.
Sainfoin is rich in protein, important minerals and other beneficial substances. It has numerous benefits as green manure and soil fertilizer, and can also be an excellent decorative element on your site.
Features and benefits of sainfoin:
Sainfoin interacts with bacteria that can fix nitrogen from the air into the soil, increasing its fertility.
Sainfoin is an excellent source of protein, important for plant growth and development.
Soil preparation. Select a well-drained site with plenty of sunlight. Dig the soil to a depth of 15-20 cm.
Evicted. Scatter the sainfoin seeds evenly onto the prepared surface. The seed consumption rate is approximately 20-30 g per square meter.
The optimal sowing temperature for sainfoin is considered to be 19-25 °C.
To collect hay from sainfoin, it is recommended to start the slope when the plant enters the budding phase and complete it during mass flowering. The height of the first mowing should be at least 6 cm, and during the last one - from 8 to 10 cm. This approach helps preserve more nutrients in the plant for the winter, improves the ability to retain snow and promotes more efficient spring regrowth of sainfoin.
