OAT (Avena sativa) 1кг
Oat
is one of the most cold-tolerant spring crops. Seed germination begins at
temperatures of 1-2 °C, and seedlings can withstand spring frosts down to -3-5
°C, sometimes even down to -7-10 °C. Winter oats can tolerate temperatures as
low as -14 °C. At -10 °C, oat leaves may be damaged, but the growing point
remains alive, and with the onset of warmth, the plant regenerates, forming a
grain yield. In the initial stage of vegetation, oats negatively react to high
temperatures (20 °C and above), which leads to a delay in the growth of the
root system and aboveground organs. The optimal temperature for oats during the
emergence period is 15-18 °C.
Although
oats are cold-tolerant plants, they are sensitive to frost. Therefore, they are
usually sown in early spring (April), before planting late crops or after
harvesting early vegetables, to have time to mow them before the first autumn
frosts. Oats, as a cover crop, have an advantage in releasing readily available
potassium into the soil, making them an excellent precursor for
potassium-demanding vegetables such as tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, and
others. Oats, as a cover crop, are particularly effective in acidic and peaty
soils, as their roots contain substances that combat root rot. Additionally,
they effectively suppress weed growth. Oats are harvested at the beginning of
mass flowering.
